Good information about Chevy Engines. But I'm looking for a well quality used Chevy car. Can you please inform me about the dealer who is selling such used Chevy models?

Jeff, I looked at the latest Hollander Interchange this morning as I said I would.

Before I post, let me give a brief answer to your question about why yards say things fit: It is based pretty much on the interchange system. "Fit" can sometimes be subjective. For example, there are some engines that fit but over time yards will provide feedback to the interchange companies that their customers have problems doing certain swaps to make something fit. They will then change what is listed as interchangeable.

They will also add interchange options as they receive feedback. Since so many used engines are shipped, it is better to "go slow" in some areas so as to not lose freight costs, which drive up operating expenses. Round trip shipping even on a small Aveo engine would be close to $300.00, for example.

When we initially posted this, 2004-2006 was listed as the first gen interchange in Hollander. In the current interchange, which is 76.02, they have revised that. 2004 Aveo engines are listed as coming compatable with 2004-2005 Aveo's, 2004-2005 Suzuki Swifts and 2005 Suzuki Waves.

2006-2008's are the next Aveo Generation of engines available.

I have heard stories of folks making 2008's fit 2004's and I know it can be done. If anyone knows what it takes and has video's/pictures, I'd love to see them. In fact, for a good pictorial with commentary or video, we would pay someone for the time to put it together: See paid writing opportunities available on this blog.

Hi Jeff. I don't see any mention of Aveo engines beyond the year 06. In fact off the top of my head I don't believe the later models will interchange with the first interchange of 2004-2006.

I will check tomorrow at the office to see what the latest interchange says.

So you are saying that a 1.6 Aveo motor from a 2006-2008 will fit in a 2004 if you change the intake, thats so simple why don't the junk yards list that. Are you sure the crank is cut the same for the crank sensor? It's also a diffrent part number, so which on to use the new motor or the 2004?
