The Chrysler Pacifica has always been one of our favorite crossovers. Not only do these vehicles look fantastic, they handle well, have excellent safety ratings, and “go” when you punch the gas. The engines used in the Pacifica are some of the best motors Chrysler has ever put in any of their vehicles.
In 2004, the vehicle was offered only with a 3.5L engine. In 2005 and 2006, Chrysler offered the Pacifica with 3.5L and 3.8L displacements. In 2007 and 2008, the vehicle came with 3.8L and 4.0L engines. From all of these engines, the only consistent demand seems to come from the 3.5L engine and there is no “common” thread from consumers or mechanics as to what causes these failures. In other words, there don’t seem to be any major design flaws.
Just like any other engine, Pacifica engines can overheat if their cooling system doesn’t function well. Due to pollution regulations, late model engines have to run very hot so that they can burn pollutants out of engine exuast. If the coolant in a Pacifica engine runs low or if the radiator stops up, you can very easily blow a head gasket.
